The Vice-Chancellor for Culture, Sports and Language at the University of Alicante, Carles Cortés; the Communication and External Relations Director of Hidraqua and Aguas de Alicante, Martín Sanz; and Alicante City Council's Councillor for Culture, Mª Dolores Padilla, presented at a press conference this morning the Charity Concert '120th Anniversary of Aguas de Alicante', jointly organised by these entities with the collaboration of Alicante City Council for the benefit of Fundación Emplea. Cortés, Sanz and Padilla were accompanied in the presentation by Luar Gullian, a representative from Fundación Emplea.

The Teatro Principal will serve as the concert's venue on Monday, 19 November, at 8:30 pm, played by the University of Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra (OFUA) and directed by Tobias Gossmann. Hidraqua is an annual sponsor of this orchestra, as Carles Cortés stated in his presentation. The price of tickets/donations is 10 euros, and they are available from www.instanticket.es, or on the same day as the concert in the ticket office of the Teatro Principal. University of Alicante's vice-chancellor also stated that there is also a 'row zero' for all of those who cannot attend the concert but would like to contribute to this charity initiative.

For his part, Martín Sanz stated that 'this charity concert is one of the actions that Aguas de Alicante is participating in as part of the programme planned for its 120th anniversary'. He added that 'by collaborating in this concert we contribute to promoting a culture of talent, education and knowledge and support a social initiative, with a first-rate partner such as the University of Alicante'.

Councillor for Culture Mª Dolores Padilla stressed that 'it is a pleasure to offer the Teatro Principal, the most emblematic stage in the city and one of our heritage assets. We firmly believe in the idea that the City Council should form part of these initiatives. Through the promotion of culture, they serve as a tool to promote charity causes. So we will continue to do this'.

All the funds raised by this concert, under the framework of the VEU Solidària (Charity Voice) of the University of Alicante choir, will be given to Fundación Emplea. This non-profit organisation is dedicated to developing innovative methods and projects to promote full transition to the job market of people at risk of exclusion from employment. Fundación Emplea supports other social entities and companies by generating projects in a network to transfer innovation to stakeholders and foster the development of an economy with a more social focus. Specifically, the money that is raised will be allocated to a pilot programme whose aim is to help with one of the main challenges that social entities must face: the need to make their organisational models more sustainable and less dependent on aid from others. To achieve this, the foundation will open a call for applications from social entities in Alicante province to present projects, which must be associated with a social, digital or environmental area.

Applications will be analysed through a process in which the initiative with the greatest potential for a positive impact will be selected.

For this special occasion, the Director of the University of Alicante's Philharmonic Orchestra, or the OFUA, has selected a repertoire that includes pieces from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by Felix Mendelssohn; the 'Pavane' by Gabriel Fauré; and popular dances and melodies from Romania, by the Hungarian composer Bela Bartók. As stated by Gossmann, the strong point of the concert is 'Symphony No. 40 in G-minor, KV 550', by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This enigmatic work is one of the last three symphonies by the great master. Its melancholy, sadness and drama, as well as its moments of hope, have made it one of the most famous compositions in the world.

The concert will also be supported by Fundación Manuel Peláez, Grupo Vectalia and Alicante Provincial Council, as annual sponsors of the OFUA.
